Dai – A Tribal Midwife

Dai – A tribal midwife takes you through the serene and simple life of tribals living in the interiors of Dhule District in Maharashtra where modern amenities are yet to reach. Deliveries among this tribal population are traditionally carried out by “aayas”, senior-most ladies in the village. A lack of trained midwives, proper pre-natal care, and insufficient nutrition for pregnant mothers along with superstitious practices has led to high child and maternal mortality rates. The Adivasi Arogya Sevika (Dai) Project trained leaders among tribal women to deal with maternal health and other health issues of women.
